nab man after reported use of bear spray at Yellowknife courthouse

A 32-year-old Yellowknife man has been arrested and charged in relation to the use of bear spray at the Yellowknife courthouse.

A man accused of using bear spray at the Yellowknife courthouse is facing multiple charges. 

The police responded to the courthouse on Feb. 12 after a report that bear spray had been deployed on both the first and second floors of the building.

No injuries were reported and the lone suspect fled the area on foot.
 
Responding officers, supported by Police Dog Services, were able to identify the suspect and he was tracked to an apartment complex. As police approached, the suspect again fled but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit, according to an news release issued on Feb. 13.
 
Justin Barnet, 32, of Yellowknife, has been charged with being disguised with intent to commit an offence, mischief, resisting a peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime.
 
He appeared before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in NWT Territorial Court on Feb. 14 in Yellowknife.
 
At the time of his arrest, Barnet was bound by a court release order, the stated. He was also subject to an active warrant for his arrest for previously failing to appear in court on outstanding charges of breaking and entering, mischief and obstructing a peace officer, the Mounties added.
 
This investigation remains ongoing.
