Firefighters have made some "hard-won" gains in their efforts to contain the wildfire burning near Edzo, according to NWT Fire's Thursday afternoon update.
The fire, which had grown to 230 hectares as of July 3, has been reclassified to "being held."
"This means with continued firefighting efforts and expected weather, we do not expect it to grow at this time," NWT Fire stated in a news release. "This does not mean the fire is under control SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ more work is still required to lessen the risk of the fireSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s continued growth as the peak of the fire season unfolds."
Some rain in the area is expected to keep fire activity relatively low today, the agency added. Also aiding the fire crews are winds blowing from the west-northwest, which are pinning the blaze against the shores of Marian Lake.
Showers are possible overnight, which NWT Fire indicated would be a "big help."
