Woman charged after infant sent to Yellowknife hospital with 'life-altering' injuries

Yellowknife have charged a 41-year-old woman after an infant and a toddler were allegedly assaulted.

A 41-year-old woman is facing charges of aggravated assault and assault after an infant was admitted to Stanton Territorial Hospital with 'life-altering injuries of a suspicious nature,' according to Yellowknife .

The baby had to be transported to Edmonton for further treatment.

Although the charges were made public on Monday afternoon, the were notified of the incident on April 24.

Yellowknife SA国际影视传媒檚 Major Crimes Unit was brought in to assist. The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority and the Child and Adolescent Protection Centre in Edmonton also aided the investigation.

Police say they learned that the woman also allegedly assaulted a toddler, although that child's injuries were less severe.

The accused, who was not identified in Monday's news release, appeared before a justice of the peace. She has been released and is scheduled to appear in Yellowknife Territorial Court at a later date.

There was no update on the baby's condition.
