No more hunting of Baffin Island caribou is allowed because the quota for the year has been reached, the Department of Environment announced on Tuesday morning.

The Nunavut Wildlife Management Board set a limit of 250 caribou for 2019-20, and that total allowable harvest has now been filled. Further hunting of caribou will be investigated and may lead to enforcement action, according to a news release from the Department of Environment.
Any outstanding tags are void and harvesters are asked to return them to local wildlife offices or hunters and trappers organizations.
The limit on hunting Baffin Island caribou was put in place to help the herd recover.
