Six emerging songwriters from across the territory will have the opportunity to develop their skills thanks to a workshop organized by Alianait.
The workshop is scheduled to take place in Iqaluit March 25 to 30.
Last year, six youth from Kugluktuk, Iglulik, Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit participated, created new songs with the help of Jaaji and Chelsey June of Twin Flames, and recorded them professionally at Nuvu Studios with Qajaaq Ellsworth.
This year's workshop will be led by Juno-award winning William Prince, a storytelling singer/songwriter from Peguis First Nation, said Alianait's executive director Heather Daley.
The six emerging songwriters will spend the week in Iqaluit learning about the art of songwriting from a master songwriter and creating a new song in Inuktut.
Daley says interested songwriters should send her an email at heather@alianait.ca by February 18 providing a brief description of songwriting experience, where they are from, and why they are interested.
