Charges laid following Iqaluit armed taxi robberies

Iqaluit have arrested and charged a male youth and a woman following a pair of armed robberies of cabs in the city. 

The male accused was allegedly involved in two similar taxi robberies, the first on Sept. 25 around 9:30 p.m. and the second on Oct. 4 around 1:45 a.m. In both instances, he allegedly brandished a firearm, cash was demanded and the accused fled on foot with small amounts of money. On the second occasion, the male accused was accompanied by a female accomplice, according to the .

The cab drivers were not injured in either incident.

Following a police investigation, the male youth was charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, wearing a disguise with intent to commit indictable offence, uttering a threat to cause death, pointing a firearm at a person and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He appeared in court on Oct. 4.

The adult female accused also appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice for a bail hearing on Oct. 4. She faces charges of armed robbery with a weapon (a knife), wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
