Nunavut have charged a 41-year-old Taloyoak woman with one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal after the death of a four-month-old husky puppy.
The case has become somewhat high profile in Yellowknife, where the puppy was flown for care through Great Slave Animal Hospital prior to its death.
Known as Spike, the pup had suffered a number of pelvis fractures, head trauma and severe bruising to his body. On its Facebook page on May 9, the NWT SPCA described the abuse of the pup as a "brutal attack" that left the animal "traumatized both mentally and physically."
The pup later suffered seizures and succumbed to its injuries on May 28.
The police publicly announced the charge on June 7 after an investigation that began May 1.
The accused is due to appear in Taloyoak court on July 16.
