Emphasizing safety, Iqaluit mayor joins call for body cameras

Iqaluit Mayor Kenny Bell announced Tuesday that he's joining Pond Inlet MLA David Qamaniq, Nunavut Senator Patterson and MP Mumilaaq Qaqqaq in a call for police body cameras in Iqaluit and throughout Nunavut.

"It is about the safety of everyone involved and with this addition to the uniform; we will help protect the service members and citizens at the same time," Bell stated in a news release.

The mayor said he plans to bring the issue forward at the Iqaluit council meeting on June 9. He also plans to seek a resolution on the topic through the Nunavut Association of Municipalities' executive board in the coming weeks.
