When the exhibition Kenojuak Ashevak: Life and Legacy opens at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon on Jan. 17, residents in Cape Dorset will be able to watch via broadcast at Kinngait Studios, despite being 2,200 km away.
The academic institutionSA国际影视传媒檚 College Art Gallery will be the first venue to host the national touring exhibition, which will showcase some never-before-seen drawings from West Baffin Eskimo CooperativeSA国际影视传媒檚 archives.
In addition, there will be a publication launch, presenting dozens of KenojuakSA国际影视传媒檚 prints side by side with their original drawings, according to the Kinngait Arts Foundation. Silaqi Ashevak, KenojuakSA国际影视传媒檚 daughter, wrote the foreward, reflecting on life with her renowned mother while curator Leslie Boyd provides SA国际影视传媒渁 full, touching history of this pioneering artist of the far North,SA国际影视传媒 Kinngait Arts Foundation stated in a news release.
The University of Saskatchewan will be the site of the exhibition until April 17.
Kenojuak Ashevak, who lived from 1927-2013, SA国际影视传媒渨as part of a pioneering generation of Arctic creators. She enjoyed an illustrious international career and continues to be recognized as one of CanadaSA国际影视传媒檚 preeminent artists and cultural icons,SA国际影视传媒 stated Kinngait Arts Studios.
