Many Nunavummiut students have received an initial learning package from their teachers, according to the Government of Nunavut.
The packages contain a mix of online and paper-based lessons.
"Most of these packages include work and activities for one or two weeks at a time, to strengthen skills in literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing. Families should expect learning packages for the rest of the school year," Premier Joe Savikataaq stated in a news release on Wednesday. "I want to remind parents and students that these are designed to reinforce the skills students have already learned and will not be assessed by teachers toward final grades."
Minister of Education David Joanasie previously stated that his department is aware some families may not receive the student learning packages because they are on the land. The department endorses families engaging in land-based activities like hunting and fishing to complement student learning.
The department has also developed a with a variety of learning resources in Inuktitut and English.
A formal decision was made in mid-April for the duration of the school year due to the threat posed by Covid-19.
