A 19-year-old man is facing a charge of aggravated assault following an incident in Pangnirtung on the evening of May 8 when a fellow prisoner was attacked and seriously injured in an jail cell.
The 54-year-old victim was transported to the health centre in Pangnirtung and later medevaced to Iqaluit for further treatment. He's in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
William Lawson was charged and has been released with conditions following an appearance before a justice of the peace. Lawson is due back in court on Aug. 17.
