Designer Victoria Kakuktinniq of VictoriaSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s Arctic Fashion and Nuvuja9 designer Melissa Attagutsiak met in Paris at International Indigenous Fashion Week, held during Paris Fashion Week in early March.
Kakuktinniq is from Rankin Inlet but now lives in Iqaluit where she runs her shop, while Attagutsiak is from Iqaluit and now lives in Ottawa. The two worked together to present a fashion show in Iqaluit April 20 SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ the Upingaksaaq (early spring) Fashion Show SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ where their own designs, fresh off the Paris catwalk, were featured.
They also showcased designs from InukChicSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s Martha Kyak of Pond Inlet, SophiaSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s OuterwearSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s Chelsey St.John of Arviat, KayleighSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s FashionsSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™ Kristy King and Chantel Kablutsiak, also of Arviat, and the Miqqut Project, a literacy and sewing program offered by Ilitaqsiniq Nunavut Literacy Council.
Aayuraa Studio, ENB Artisan, Kaajuk and LVH Jewellery provided accessories to complement the stunning clothing designs.
