After shots were fired in Cape Dorset on April 25 and an armed standoff lasting several hours ensued with police, 17 charges have subsequently been laid against a 28-year-old man.
Paul Etungat is scheduled to appear in court on June 2 to answer to the following charges:
-discharging a firearm recklessly
-sexual assault with a weapon
-aggravated assault
-sexual assault
-possession of weapon dangerous to the public
-unauthorized possession of firearm
-use of firearm in commission of offence
-assault
-assault with a weapon
-two counts of careless use of a firearm
-two counts of pointing a firearm
-two counts of uttering threats
-two counts of forcible confinement
Etungat appeared before a justice of the peace and he's being kept in jail until his next appearance in court.
Residents of Cape Dorset were placed on temporary lockdown during the afternoon of April 25 while police negotiated with an armed man close to the landfill and nearby mountains. The man eventually surrendered and there were no injuries.
