Fort Liard investigating after hunter suffers gunshot wound

A 49-year-old man is in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound while hunting near Fort Liard over the weekend, say .

The man was hunting with two other people approximately 15 kilometres from Fisherman Lake Sunday night when he sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, states a news release issued Tuesday afternoon by Fort Liard .

The injured hunter was taken to the Fort Liard boat launch before community members and a local nurse brought him to a health centre. The man was then medevaced to Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, states the news release.

The incident is prompting police to remind residents of the importance of safe hunting practices.
