The first of the Spike It! volleyball tournaments in Yellowknife is in the books.

The junior version wrapped up on Oct. 27 with teams from Yellowknife, Ndilo, Hay River, Behchoko, Lutsel K'e and Fort Good Hope battling it out to win one of the six banners up for grabs in the Grade 6, 7 and 8 boys and girls divisions.

The senior edition is set to begin on Oct. 31 with teams from Fort Smith, Hay River, Fort Good Hope, Deline, Inuvik, Lutsel K'e, Behchoko and Ndilo joining in with the teams from Yellowknife.

Kevin Koe starts strong

Truro, N.S.

The latest stop on the Grand Slam of Curling circuit is off and running and it all got going on Oct. 24 for Kevin Koe.

Koe and company are in Truro, N.S., for the Canadian Beef Masters and he got off to a good start by beating Jamie Murphy of Nova Scotia in his opening game, 8-5. Koe executed a runback triple-takeout with his final stone to score four and seal the deal.

He had two games the following day against Steffen Walstad of Norway and Glenn Howard of Ontario and wrapped up the round-robin against Scotland's Bruce Mouat on Oct. 26.

The Lawrie Hobart Memorial Volleyball Tournament wrapped up in Fort Smith on Oct. 21. Teams from Fort Smith, Hay River, Yellowknife and Ndilo competed in the tournament and here's who won what:
