October 6, 1933 - August 8, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Donna Jean MacEachern (Nee Nuttall). She left this world peacefully at her home in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NT), surrounded by family at the age of 90.

She was born in Longueuil, Quebec, but grewup in the village of Cumberland, Ontario, that she always held close to her heart. Daughter to Gordon and Clara (nee Wagner) Nuttall. She was the third eldest of nine brothers and sisters: Howard, Reg, Ron, Dorotheen, Gary, Bryne, Gayle, and Glenn.

In 1955 she married the love of her life, Don, and they followed his affinity for the north, moving to Fort Smith, NT, in 1956 where they started their young family. They continued to Hay River, NT, in 1967, and then finally to Yellowknife, NT in 1976, where she remained for the rest of her life with no intention of ever leaving! In 1980 they bought their cabin at Cassidy Point on Prosperous Lake which became the center of family gatherings and cherished memories. It was her special place.

She made and maintained dear friendships throughout her life. She especially valued the bonds that she formed later in life with her girlfriends, "the girls", and the "Lunch with the Bunch" crew.

She loved lipstick and was rarely seen without it. She was generous and her mailbox was often full of charity receipts. She loved doing crosswords, watching British television shows, and reading mystery novels. She was creative and enjoyed quilting and knitting. She made the best apple pie. She loved sports, especially tennis and curling; she was undoubtedly Canada's biggest curling fan! She was full of wit and was always a good sport when it came to humour. She adored her grand-dogs and often shared her meals with them. She was patient, kind, and always put her family first.

She is survived by her dear children, Terry (Shelley), Tim (Carol), and Trixie (Jim - her favorite son-in-law); grandchildren, Loren, Jonah, Camilla, Lindsay, Garrett, Brody, Kori, Jessica, Briana, and Kaitlin; great grandchildren, Ruby, Quinn, Hanah, Jacob, Logan, Emily, Sullivan, Ava, Natalie, Autumn, Ella, Rylee, Harper, Leo, and Joe, with more on the way; and many honourary grandchildren. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Her wishes to remain home through her short illness would not have been possible without the love and support of Dr. Palova and the NWT Home Care team who were our "angels on earth" who helped us honour her fiercely independent nature until the end.

A celebration of Donna's life will take place on Saturday, September 7th between 2-4pm at the Yellowknife Elks Lodge (Upper Level).
