October 11, 1936 - October 10, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce that Fred Wittlinger has passed away peacefully, with his family nearby, at his home on October 10th, 2024, at age of 87. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Christa, and his children Amy (John) and Andy (Chelsea). Fred leaves behind four Grandchildren: Jakobi, Gallant, Mila and Dallas, as his large family in Germany and his brother Willi in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Fred was born on October 11th, 1936, in Augsburg, Germany, and moved to Canada in his early 20's. He quickly ventured north after his arrival and lived in many Arctic communities throughout his lifetime. Fred served with the NWT Power Corp. and as a Justice of the peace with the NWT for 35 years and 45 years respectively.

As a plant Superintendent with the NWTPC, Fred served in the communities such as Old Crow, Ft .MacPherson, Aklavik (where his wife Christa joined him and his journey in Canada), Pangnirtung, Resolute Bay, Hay River and Cambridge Bay. Fred's Justice of the peace duties followed him from community to community.

Upon retirement from the NWTPC, Fred settled in Yellowknife with his family and took up work with Kingland Ford Yellowknife as the courtesy shuttle driver. Fred spent the next 20 years entertaining Ford customers in Yellowknife with stories of his life and was always curious about the lives of his passengers. Fred was an experienced world traveler and thoroughly enjoyed destinations such as Australia and New Zealand.

A Gathering for Remembrance will be held on November 2nd, 2024, at the Mckenna Funeral Home. All that knew Fred are invited to come pay their respects, chat, and remember him.

An informal service will be held from 1-3pm.
