The country has some very serious nation building to do

The global economic war is spreading and worsening, driven by U.S. President Donald TrumpSA国际影视传媒檚 capricious decision-making.

His global wrecking ball politics continues to inflict maximum political, social, economic and environmental damage.

Within America, the great republic is being dismantled. It is replaced with an authoritarian state headed by an old white dictator, propped up many white, unelected male billionaires. The legislative and judicial branches of government are becoming captured institutions, marginalized, ignored and/or attacked by the White House. Three months into TrumpSA国际影视传媒檚 term, economic and social chaos rules. The fabric of American society is tattered and torn. The economy is in freefall. Many Americans are taking to the streets to protest the bewildering actions of their president.

Concurrently, TrumpSA国际影视传媒檚 economic and political attacks on Canada continue, and our federal government works diligently to defend the country while we prepare to elect our government for the next four years. It is a stressful, turbulent time. There is a stark choice before us in this election SA国际影视传媒 a strong, sovereign Canada or a Canada in an abusive relationship with a domineering, violent, Trump-led America, where our system of government will undergo the same type of changes currently destabilizing America.

April 28 is our date with destiny to make that decision. The election campaign is well underway. I do not think there are many undecided voters at this point. Canadians are consumed by the political events that have gotten us to this point. The sense of Canadian pride and nationalism is palpable. We all know the future of our country is at stake.

This brings us back to the election campaign, which is nearing its midpoint. At the age of 74, I know there is no shortcut to experience. Prime Minister Mark Carney has that type of experience at the highest levels and the broad skills that come with that kind of international background. He has already shown, in very difficult circumstances, that he is up to the job. His hand on the helm has been steady and sure as he steers us through the Trump-induced upheavals. Like most Canadians, he wants to our country to be the true north strong and free. Most importantly, he and the premiers SA国际影视传媒 most of them, anywaySA国际影视传媒 have a plan to get us there. Team Canada is already in action.

The book that has recently come out on Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is called 'Ripper' for a reason. His adult working life has been spent within the rarified confines of Parliament in Ottawa. There he built and maintained his reputation as a partisan, aggressive attack dog, with great skills and a SA国际影视传媒榯ake no prisonersSA国际影视传媒 approach. Collaboration is not in his vocabulary. His politics and approach are visibly very consistent with Trump's, as the author of SA国际影视传媒淩ipperSA国际影视传媒 lays out chapter and verse.

Poilievre also has many extreme supporters kept in the wings, like Trump did, till the polls closed. If Poilievre is successful, those supporters will be unleashed, just like what we are seeing in America. In fact, it has been reported in the Globe and Mail that a cadre of Trump operatives have been invited into Canada, by some conservative elements, for a series of closed meetings. The topic of those conversations is allegedly to go over the Trump playbook and how it could be implemented in Canada. Not surprisingly, a keynote political speaker at these closed-door meetings will be none other than AlbertaSA国际影视传媒檚 premier, Danielle Smith, who is already well known for her unabashed admiration of Trump. The very thought of all this causes me enormous concern about the future of our country if Poilievre and the Conservatives form the next government.

Canada has some very serious nation building to do. We need to strengthen old alliances and the build new ones as we forge CanadaSA国际影视传媒檚 future in this new world order. We need Team Canada, not TrumpSA国际影视传媒檚 wrecking ball politics or a Canada-light version. Every vote will count SA国际影视传媒 vote strategically, vote early, but vote.

A lot can happen in the last few days before the election. Leave nothing to chance. Stay active, get the vote out. We are all on Team Canada.
