Hockey Night in Cambridge Bay!
The minor hockey players are so happy and excited that there are some dedicated volunteers who take their time to coach and have kids learn how to play hockey and learn to skate.
Some as young as four years to 12 years old are able to go to the arena to put hockey gear on and learn to play hockey with Mitchell McCallum and his friends and arena staff.
There is hockey gear from the Shoot To Score Hockey organization led by Reggie Leach. There are lots of skates here but we are short on hockey sticks and helmets for the kids who want to learn to play hockey. Presently, the arena schedule is open for minor hockey on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For a few years, the local arena had to shut down due to mould in the building. After it was cleaned up, and maintenance and work were done on the arena, it has opened again.
Now senior hockey is back on as well as minor hockey. Big thanks to volunteers like Mitchell McCallum and older players and kids are back on the ice.
Once minor hockey is up and running at full schedule, McCallum is hoping to seek more funding to carry on the minor hockey league in Cambridge Bay. Keep up the good work, Mitchell and volunteer coaches. Kids are happy to skate again and have fun. Their dreams will come true.
God Be With You Son.
