This will be the election where many will be making decisions from a place of fear and not rational thinking. No wonder.
There is an American madman threatening CanadaSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s sovereignty every day through economic warfare, which is already hurting many in Eastern Canada. In no uncertain terms, he has stated that his plan is to destroy our economy first then swallow our country.
As we all know by now, U.S. President Donald Trump, a convicted felon, does indeed pose an existential threat to CanadaSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s existence, yet, at this point, the disrespect and wartime aggressiveness he has demonstrated has only pulled Canadians together.
ItSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s OK to admit though that underneath our tough exterior we are scared. How could we not be? Most of us have that in common and are not sleeping well.
Dealing with the threats of a malignant narcissist can only ignite fear because nothing he says or does makes sense. So we are living in confusion with no control. Yet we must not allow that fear to weaken us. Instead, we must strengthen our resolve to be strong together. That you are scared doesnSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™t mean there is something wrong with you SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” it means there is something wrong with Trump. We need to support each other in this and let our fellow Canadians know they are not alone.
Similarly, as we move into election mode, we have party leaders running campaigns based on negativity and fear SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” each suggesting that the other does not have what it takes in these difficult times. Each, in their own way, is working to convince us that the other can't do the job.
However, we shouldnSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™t get fooled into thinking that the race is between two main contenders at the leadership level and a proliferation of candidates at the local jurisdictions. This is not true. There are also the NDP and Greens who are offering us choices from passionate candidates, and there is still time for independents to jump in. Most of all, we are forgetting our own strength. LetSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s not forget that it will be us who determines what happens with the American aggressor. This is a battle that is far more than a local elected representative. We are the boots on the ground and the ones who roll up our sleeves prepared to do whatever it takes to protect our homeland. It will require muscle power and resolve from every one of us.
Politicians can only do so much, and, as we have all learned, they have their limitations. Instead, we must all ask ourselves what we can do to stand up for Canada and how we, the people, can let the American administration know that we are determined people who will give our all to stand up for our country.
We cannot expect elected officials to fight this battle for us. It's ours and we can all play a part. Across the country, we see Canadians taking action: we have stopped buying American products; we have stopped travelling to the United States; we are snubbing Tesla; and we removed American booze from our shelves. We are working to dismantle Starlink and cancelling multi-million dollar contracts. And we're examining whether to have our fighter jets built somewhere other than in the U.S.
Ordinary Canadians are fighting back and it will be everyday Canadians who save our country through actions such as these.
We don't need to hear negativity and fear in this election. WeSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™re surrounded by it. We need inspiration and support as we continue to defend our country together.
Here in the territories, the candidates are making themselves known. Indeed, letSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s give each of them a chance. But we must also remember that together, we collectively can stand up for ourselves and this country. We too can and must raise our own voices. Long after the election is over, we can take our own actions. We can be heard. It will be the grassroots people that pull us through this because we stand on guard for thee and each other. It's the Canadian way.
We are motivated for the love of the land on which we live SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” not fear. The real battle that needs to go on here and across this country is one motivated by love for what we have and what our ancestors died for. We will not give up our freedom or our land.
As a nation during this time of great testing SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ election or no election SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ we must stand and support each other. That is what will get us through.
Elbows up, everyone. We can do this together.
