TrumpSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s bullying and poodling up to Putin: the first 30 days

The world hates bullies. Canadians hates bullies. America was conceived out of the fight of the colonies against bullying by Britain.

The world hates bullies. Canadians hates bullies. America was conceived out of the fight of the colonies against bullying by Britain.

American cinema heroes like Billy Jack, Jack Reacher, John Wick and the Equalizer spent their cinema lives taking on and tuning up bullies, to the delight of millions the world over, including yours truly. But no more. U.S. President Donald Trump is now the bully to his own people and the rest of the world, except for the dictators out there that Trump so admires and tries to emulate, hence the term poodling up to Putin.

All this has served as a wake-up call for the rest of the free world, including Canada. After 30 days of Trump, by way of his executive orders, urinating in the cornflakes of now former friends and allies around the world, things are starting to happen here at home, in the European Union, Britain, Mexico and the list goes on. Even though Canada is in the midst of an impending election, and the prime minister is a caretaker, Canada is doing good things both at home and on the world stage:

-Team Canada really carried the mail for us, giving us an amazing boost at a critical time, thwarting Trump.

-Canada, as the current chair of the G-7, is refusing to invite Russia to the G-7 meeting in spite of TrumpSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s request.

-We are beefing up our support to the Ukraine, a country of heroes.

-We are sorting out and getting rid of our internal trade barriers.

-The need to seriously beef up our military is now a priority.

-This is tied to safeguarding SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” in a big way and in a hurry SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” our northern flank, where we are extremely vulnerable.

-Strengthening all our other alliances and making new ones around the world.

-Canadians are standing tall for Canada, except maybe those around Bowden, Alta., who are advocating for Canada to be the 51st state. They donSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™t have to bother. There is plenty of room in the existing states for them right now. Trump will welcome them with open arms.

This is just the beginning. There are 1,425 days left in Trump's term, the tariffs have taken effect, escalating the global economic war. One thing that is critical in the continued dark days ahead is keeping our voices heard. The Trump strategy is to silence all and any opposition at home and abroad, by any means necessary SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” free speech be damned. Silence in the face of this type of bullying and aggression is enabling, emboldening the bullies. This has been shown time and time again through the ages. It was a hard lesson relearned very bitterly by Germans when Hitler seized power.

Amid all the global tumult, war and suffering, Ukraine has been on the front-lines, in the third year of a war started by Russia when they invaded Ukraine. The Ukrainians are amazing, supported by Western countries. They are fighting bravely to protect every inch of their country from the Russians, who are aided by troops from North Korea and critical logistical support from China and now, as shocking as it is, political support from the U.S.

We can learn a lot from Ukraine as we prepare for Trump and Putin coming to bully, threaten, intimidate and extort Canada. The stronger our alliance and support for Ukraine, the better. Through it all, Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been at the helm, leading Ukraine during this terrible time. He's shown himself to be brave, measured, resolute, strategic and smart. To me, without equivocation or hesitation, he is the best leader in the world, bar none. If I was going down a dangerous, dark alley, heSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s the guy I would want by my side, like I would want him by CanadaSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s side as we turn to defend ourselves against the rise of the dictators.

The dictators have expressed their interest in the Arctic. Russia is already there in a big way, far better prepared than we are. On our western border, Alaska, TrumpSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s America, now in some type of sinister detente with Putin, while China, PutinSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s other ally, is already prepared to insert itself into our northern backyard, where we are vulnerable. No one is coming to save us. Time is not on our side. We have our SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½œto-do list" in the North. We have to put all our necessary resources to use right away. We have a lot of ground to make up to dictator-proof the North.
