Athletes off to the races with the 2024 Midnight Sun Triathlon

67 competitors run, cycle and swim in July 7 competition

Sixty-seven athletes tackled the three disciplines in Sunday's Midnight Sun Triathlon.

SA国际影视传媒淭his event is our warm-up for the season, with participants swimming in the Ruth Inch Pool, rather than in a lake,SA国际影视传媒 stated Mike Lee, race director and president of the Yellowknife Multisport Club.

While the new pool construction has rendered the parking lot a challenge to hold the beginning of the triathlon, Lee said they persevered to ensure the annual event could continue.

This year, the triathlon featured sprint and try-a-tri distances for adults and also a kids' category.

The sprint category was to swim for 800 metres (32 lengths), bike 20 km and run 5 km.

The try-a-tri competitors had to swim 400 metres (16 lengths), bike 10 km and run 2 km.

In the kids' category, there was a 50-metre (2 length) swim, a bike for 2 km and a run for 500 metres.

Top female

The top female finisher out of 12 racers in the sprint category was Fiona Aiston with a winning time of 1:22:11.5.

Aiston said she has been on the running circuit since she was a teenager and has gradually started to include a few triathlons as well. She said in the triathlon, she does best in the running segment.

SA国际影视传媒淢y favourite would definitely be running as it comes the most natural to me. I feel like the most efficient and the fastest is in running,SA国际影视传媒 she said.

While in Toronto last October, she said she did her first marathon and had a fast enough time to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

SA国际影视传媒淪o my next big goal would be training for that marathon,SA国际影视传媒 Aiston said of the annual event held in Boston in April.

Top male

In the male sprint category, Conrad Schubert was first out of six racers with a time of 1:19:08.9.

Schubert said he was very happy with his race and that he has been participating in such events annually since his first triathlon in 1990.

He said he enjoyed participating in SundaySA国际影视传媒檚 event with everyone.

SA国际影视传媒淭he weather was great. Fantastic. And I thought the route was really good, too," he said. SA国际影视传媒淚t's always a bit of a highlight in just seeing people who have been doing triathlon for some period of time, and the people who are doing it for the very first time.SA国际影视传媒
