In 2019 renovations to add approximately 72 new long-term care beds which will be housed on the second and third floors of Stanton Territorial Hospital's SA国际影视传媒渓egacySA国际影视传媒� building, will commence.

The plan includes adding eight new extended care beds in addition to the 10 which already exist at Stanton - making the total number of extended care beds, 18.

The added beds are part of the Department of Health and Social Services plan to roll out 258 long-term and extended care beds in the territory by 2026.

Accommodations for patients currently using the extended care unit will be made as the hospital transitions into bringing in new beds, said Northwest Territories Health And Social Services Authority spokesperson, David Macguire.

Patients will be moved from the hospital's care unit wing to the fifth floor of the new building during the renovation in 2019, but will return to the legacy building once changes to its ECU are completed in 2021.

Aside from the additional beds there will be no changes to other areas within the legacy building. The first floor space will remain the Frame Lake Clinic and will also provide care to those needing rehabilitation services.

A release from the Press Secretary of the NWT states the construction on the old hospital is 75 per cent complete with all of the renovations to the legacy building  expected to be completed by the middle of 2021.
