As a young girl living in the community of Behchoko, Cecilie Beaulieu SA国际影视传媒済rew up being scared of the .SA国际影视传媒�

That all changed when Beaulieu herself became a public servant with in Yellowknife.

Nearly three decades later, Beaulieu is calling it a career.

SheSA国际影视传媒檚 retiring at the end of the month after working at the capitalSA国际影视传媒檚 detachment for more than 28 years.

After moving to Yellowknife from her home community of Behchoko SA国际影视传媒� she knew she SA国际影视传媒渉ad to step up and do somethingSA国际影视传媒� for herself SA国际影视传媒� Beaulieu married and settled in Ndilo, where she still lives today.

Soon, she was employed as a public servant by Yellowknife at the detachmentSA国际影视传媒檚 information management division. After nine years SA国际影视传媒渦pstairs,SA国际影视传媒� at the information management division, Beaulieu moved down to the detachment, where she began working as a clerk in 2000.

Six years ago, Beaulieu, known as Cece at the detachment, became the detachment supervisor. SheSA国际影视传媒檚 tasked with overseeing nine public servants while ensuring the day-to-day functions of the detachment run smoothly.

She took the job after receiving encouragement and support from co-workers at the Yellowknife detachment, Beaulieu said.

SA国际影视传媒淚 would have never thought of it if it wasnSA国际影视传媒檛 for some co-workers who said SA国际影视传媒榶ou should try this,SA国际影视传媒橲A国际影视传媒� recalled Beaulieu.

When Beaulieu first started working for the close to 30 years ago, it was SA国际影视传媒渏ust a job to put food on the table,SA国际影视传媒� she said. SA国际影视传媒淎fter a while, you enjoy working. There are a lot of different co-workers and different people ISA国际影视传媒檝e met along the way,SA国际影视传媒� she added.

In recent years, CanadaSA国际影视传媒檚 national police force, along with NWT , has recognized the need to increase Indigenous representation within the force by bolstering recruitment efforts.

As an Indigenous woman working within the , Beaulieu hesitated to call herself a role model to other young girls and boys from communities like Behchoko, Ndilo and Dettah who are interested in pursuing a career in policing.

But BeaulieuSA国际影视传媒檚 co-workers had no problem using the term.

SA国际影视传媒淏eing Indigenous myself SA国际影视传媒� Indigenous people are very humble and I think sheSA国际影视传媒檚 humble in her workings,SA国际影视传媒� said Cpl. Charmaine Parenteau, a recruiter for SA国际影视传媒淕SA国际影视传媒� Division.

SA国际影视传媒淲hether she sees it or not, sheSA国际影视传媒檚 definitely a role model to everyone in the community,SA国际影视传媒� said Parenteau.

Parenteau added Beaulieu is revered at work and at home, too.

SA国际影视传媒淚 think a lot of people in her family, in the work environment here see her as a role model,SA国际影视传媒� adding becoming supervisor at the detachment is a SA国际影视传媒渃hallenging processSA国际影视传媒� thatSA国际影视传媒檚 no easy feat.

Insp. Alex Laporte, the Officer in charge of the Yellowknife Detachment, also praised the years-long work of the outgoing public servant.

SA国际影视传媒淓veryday she comes into work with a smile and is happy to serve," stated Insp. Laporte in an email. "Once in a while she would even share some of her life experiences and her Indigenous culture, which she is so proud of."

SA国际影视传媒淗er career in the public service will serve as an example for other Northerners and her service and her contribution to the mandate of the in the Northwest Territories has been remarkable,SA国际影视传媒� he added.

Decades after once being SA国际影视传媒渁fraid of the ,SA国际影视传媒� growing up in a small community, Beaulieu said she sees things differently now.

SA国际影视传媒淎fter a while, you just look at it as SA国际影视传媒� youSA国际影视传媒檙e all in it together. And the members are there to serve and protect the community,SA国际影视传媒� she said.

SA国际影视传媒淚 think the misconception about what the does here SA国际影视传媒� I think people really need to work in the to really find out what kind of people do work here.

As for BeaulieuSA国际影视传媒檚 post-retirement plans come April, she has her sights sight on a few travel destinations SA国际影视传媒� as well as something else.
