The Yellowknife Airport had an unexpected visitor this weekend.
Air Canada confirmed through an emailed statement that flight AC845 flying from Frankfurt to Calgary was medically diverted to land in the Capitol Saturday evening.
"Flight AC845 from Frankfurt to Calgary on July 7 diverted to Yellowknife due to a medical emergency. Medical response teams met the aircraft and the customer was deplaned. Following the uplift of additional fuel and resolving other operational matters" stated an Air Canada spokeperson over e-mail.
AC845 was a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplane, one of the largest commercial flights in the Air Canada fleet. There were 311 people on board. It was not immediately clear what the medical emergency on board was.
According to the airline, the flight was grounded for a short time before it completed it's trip to Calgary.
"the aircraft departed Yellowknife approximately three hours later and arrived in Calgary at approximately 7:30 p.m., just over four hours from scheduled." stated an Air Canada spokeperson.
