Not long after it was revealed housing in Fort Simpson was infested with bed bugs, a resident at an apartment complex in Yellowknife says his building is suffering a similar fate.
Tenants at Sunridge Place, located on 51a Avenue and managed by Northview Apartment REIT, were recently notified that they will need to vacate their apartments on Aug. 9 so the property can be treated for the biting insects.
According to the resident, who asked to remain anonymous, a note was slipped under their door this past week explaining tenants would have to vacate their rooms and move their furniture away from their walls.
The resident did not notice bed bugs in the apartment, but said it was likely adjacent to one with an infestation.
Alma Igar, clerk for the Yellowknife Housing Authority, confirmed that nine units in the Sunridge complex are rented for low income housing and that the Authority was aware of the problem.
"None of our nine units have been affected," she said.
Alta Pest Control, based out of the USA, is treating the affected rooms.
The scope of the issue is unknown.
Yellowknifer reached out to Northview multiple times but did not hear back by press time.
