Early morning car fire downtown under investigation

A small sedan erupted in flames behind the NWT Diamond Centre around 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

Yellowknife received a call at approximately 3:56 a.m. for a vehicle parked near 49 Street and 51 Avenue. The City of Yellowknife Fire Division attended and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries though a nearby fence sustained fire damage.

In the press release, spokesperson Julie Plourde said that Yellowknife "believe the fire could be suspicious in nature."

The incident is being investigated by the NWT Fire Marshal and police.
