Exposed pipe returns on Franklin Avenue

City says it cuts protrusion as it juts out of the asphalt

The exposed pipe jutting out of Franklin Avenue isn't quite as tall as it was in June, but still looks jagged enough to possibly damage a tire.

It's not a weed, but it sure seems to grow like one.

An exposed pipe on Franklin Avenue has sprouted up once again. The city told Yellowknifer that it cannot accommodate an interview, but provided the following information:

"The exposed pipe on Franklin Avenue is a pipe that resurfaces when underground pressure pushes it upwards. At this time, there are no plans to remove the pipe as its origins are unknown and further damage may be caused by removing it. The City of Yellowknife actively monitors the pipe and when exposed, the city cuts down the pipe to ensure it doesnSA国际影视传媒檛 become a hazard on the road."

In early July, that same pipe was sticking out of the road. The short piece of pipe can be found near the Racquet Club and protrudes a few inches, possibly enough to damage someone's tire if they drove over it.

Chris Greencorn, the municipality's director of public works, originally explained that exposed plastic pipe in question was likely installed as part of a monitoring well. He added that exposed pipes have occurred in other areas of Yellowknife where similar monitoring wells exist.
