The GNWT will close Highway 8 (the Dempster Highway) to all traffic at 5 p.m. on Friday. 

The highway, which goes south into the Yukon will be closed at kilometre 1 and extending to kilometre 14.2, the GNWT said in a news release. 

The order from the Commissioner of the NWT comes under the Public Highways Act to support the order of the chief public health officer regarding travel measures to slow the spread of Covid-19.

The plan is to re-open the highway once ferries resume operation for the season. 

Highway 1, which traverses the NWT-Alberta border, remains open with a check stop at Enterprise.

SA国际影视传媒淒rivers are reminded that it is unsafe and illegal to drive on a closed highway. Only emergency and enforcement vehicles are exempted from the closure. Please obey all traffic signs and barricades,SA国际影视传媒� the GNWT said.
