A preliminary hearing for a father and son accused of murdering a Yellowknife cab driver will resume in the fall.
James Schiller, 49, and Elias Schiller, 18, both charged with second-degree murder, sat for day-one of the hearing in a Yellowknife courtroom on Wednesday.
The inquiry will determine the strength of the Crown's evidence against the two ahead of a trial.
Both men are charged in the death of Ahmed Mahamud Ali, a City Cab driver who worked for the company on and off for more than two decades. Ali was found unconscious in his cab outside of Stanton Territorial Hospital in the early hours of Nov. 19.
He was later pronounced dead.
The father and son were arrested and charged days apart following AliSA国际影视传媒檚 death. Elias Schiller has remained in custody at North Slave Correctional Complex (NSCC) since his arrest. James Schiller was granted bail in March. He is ordered to obey conditions while on pretrial release.
A court-ordered ban prevents the publication of any evidence heard during the preliminary hearing.
Following day-one of the inquiry, the hearing will pick up again in Yellowknife on Sept. 25.
Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 dates have also reserved for the continuation of the hearing.
