Law Enforcement Torch Run hits Yellowknife streets this weekend

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) will kick off its first annual 5 km Walk/Run in Yellowknife on Sunday.

The new event joins other fundraising and awareness campaigns organized by the Northwest Territories LETR.

The organization, made up of "dedicated law enforcement officers from local agencies," is committed to "raising awareness and fundraising for Special Olympics," states a news release issued by Yellowknife on Thursday.

Northwest Territories LETR also hosts two other annual events, a polar plunge and airplane pull. The money raised through these initiatives goes towards ensuring athletics stay "involved in a sport year-round, giving them the opportunity to be involved in recreational and competitive sports," states the news release.

officers from the Yellowknife detachment, along with other "G" Division Mounties, will be lacing up their shoes and hitting to roads, alongside members of the public.

The "family-friendly" event will kick off at Rotary Park at 2 p.m, March 31.

Runner and walkers alike will follow a route down the ice road, finishing back at the park.

The fun run is free, and participants can register at Rotary Park on Sunday at 1 p.m.
