A man was arrested in downtown Yellowknife Tuesday after police seized a cache of alcohol and cash.

At around 9: 15 a.m., members of Yellowknife general investigative section (GIS) spotted suspicious activity in the area of 50 Ave and 49th St.

Officers approached the area - a vacant parking lot - and intercepted "what appeared to be the alleged sale of illegal alcohol," a news release stated Wednesday.

One man, arrested by police, was found to be carrying a duffle bag with 16 750 ml bottles of liquor, one 375 ml bottle of vodka and cash.

He was later released and charges are pending.
