Masks are now mandatory at the Yellowknife Staples.

Matt Halliday, general manager of the Staples on Old Airport Road confirmed that the store has been asking patrons to wear masks since Monday Oct. 12.

As the decision came from Staples CanadaSA国际影视传媒檚 head office, Halliday said he could not comment on why the decision was made.

David Dwyer, a Staples Canada spokesperson, said masks and face coverings have become a requirement in Staples stores across the country "to maintain the highest level of health and safety for both our associates and customers."

Staples Canada is taking a national, proactive approach with our COVID-19 health and safety protocols across all our stores to ensure the safety of our associates, customers and communities," Dwyer said.

Staples Canada bills itself as the nation's largest office supplier. It's owned by New York-based hedge fund Sycamore Partners, operates 305 stores across the country and employs more than 15,000 people.

The decision follows masks becoming mandatory at increasingly more Yellowknife shops, including the two liquor stores, the Independent Grocers, and Walmart.
