NWT MP Michael McLeod has announced a federal investment of $305,000 for Dinjii Zhuh Solutions to assist Fort McPherson homeowners to reduce the amount of energy consumed in their homes.

That money will go towards providing home energy audits and implementing energy efficient upgrades, like LED light bulbs, water-saving measures, pipe insulation, according to an Aug. 12 news release.

"Energy audits will also provide data collection for additional approaches, such as foundation repair, HVAC upgrades and window replacement for future retrofits," the news release notes.

This project will feature a public awareness campaign as well. It's to help educate community members on the benefits of energy conservation and how to access rebates for energy efficient products.

"The Government of Canada has also committed to introducing a regulatory framework to phase out the installation of expensive and polluting oil heating systems in new construction, as early as 2028," the release reads. "This phase-out would include necessary exclusions for regions with insufficient access to the electricity grid and where standby back-up heating fuel is required."

McLeod stated that energy efficient homes are a major priority for the NWT.

"The more that we invest in green infrastructure, the more that Northerners get to save on energy costs and the less impact we make on our environment," said McLeod.

He made the announcement on behalf of Jonathan Wilkinson, CanadaSA国际影视传媒檚 minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
