Northwestel applied on Wednesday to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for new internet packages with unlimited data options for $10 more per month, the company said in a news release.
If the tariff applications are approved, business and residential Internet plans with unlimited data would be available in Yellowknife, Hay River, Norman Wells and Fort Smith. Whitehorse and Carcross in the Yukon and Fort Nelson in British Columbia would also have access to the unlimited plans.
There would be three plans: Internet 250, Internet 125 and Internet 50. Customers will be able to choose unlimited data on the top two standard plans for $10 more per month.
The plans are still subject to CRTC approval and wouldn't be available sooner than Nov. 2, 2020. After that, residential customers can request the plans online through Northwestel's or by calling 1-888-423-2333.

"Through its own investments and funding from the CRTC, Northwestel plans to introduce unlimited Internet to every NWT and Yukon community within three years as part of its ," said company spokesperson Andrew Anderson.
That project seeks to bring every community in the NWT and Yukon up to the minimum standard of 50 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed over the next three years, as Northwestel announced on Aug. 12.
