Police arrest one after discovery of dead woman, 18, in Hay River

One person is in police custody after officers discovered the remains of an 18-year-old woman in a home in Hay River.

The Northwest Territories Major Crimes Unit is investigating.

Police were called to a residence in the town at about 10:49 p.m. Wednesday.

The is reporting that an 18-year-old woman died in Hay River on the evening of Sept. 9, and the death is being investigated as a homicide. The next day, police were securing this residence on McBryan Drive.

"Further investigation has resulted in Hay River arresting a suspect," a news release read. "The suspect is currently in custody and facing charges."

The NT Major Crimes Unit, NT Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services remain on scene of this suspicious death that is being treated as a homicide, according to a police spokesperson. The NWT Coroner Service is assisting the in this investigation.

At this time, the are not looking for other suspects, and this is believed to be an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.
