A student at a Yellowknife school has been charged with uttering threats following an investigation.

On March 15, staff at the school, the name of which is now subject to publication ban, notified police of a "potential threat."

A subsequent investigation led by Yellowknife and the General Investigation Section (GIS) resulted in a youth being arrested on March 19.

The youth, who can't be named under Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with three counts of uttering threats.

SA国际影视传媒淲e are informing the public that we have laid charges in alleged school threats. The safety of the students and public was not at risk due to the quick actions of the school officials and the investigating officers," York-Condon wrote.

In a release from Yellowknife Educational District School No. 1 (YK1), the school's principal wrote, "the safety and wellbeing of students and staff is my first priority."

"There was never an immediate threat to our school, its students or staff but we will continue to work closely with the to resolve this issue," she wrote.

As a result of the incident, the school has crafted a safety plan that will be introduced before students return from March break.

The charged youth will not be allowed back to the school until a later date, the release from the board stated.

The youth was released on conditions and is due to appear in a Yellowknife youth court at a later date.
