bust illegal liquor distribution at 47 Street apartment

The Yellowknife put a stop to an illegal sale of liquor at a 47 Street apartment, April 22.

A news release issued on Monday evening states that officers had been patrolling downtown Yellowknife when they spotted illegal liquor sale activity coming from the apartment.

The Yellowknife General Investigation Section then started an investigation based on the NWT Liquor Act and got a search warrant.

On Friday April 24 at about 3 p.m., police were executing the warrant at the apartment and found cash, several 375 ml bottles of  vodka as well as 750 ml of private stock fortified wine. Cash and liquor were seized.

Police say a 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with illegal sale of liquor pursuant to section 74 of the NWT Liquor Act.

"We believe the illegal alcohol was destined to the downtown, vulnerable citizens," stated Insp. Alex Laporte, Yellowknife Detachment Commander. "The good work of our members and the collaboration of the public have helped reduce the illegal sale of alcohol in our community. The is dedicated to continuing to work with our partners to curb this illegal activity."
