According to the statistic, thefts are up in Yellowknife from this time last year.

Motor vehicle theft is up to 11 instances from two in Jan. 2018. Theft under $5,000 has almost doubled at 47 instances compared to 29 last January.

There were 59 assaults (all categories) and 42 incidents under the liquor act, both of these categories are down from the previous year.

In an attempt to increase visibility in the downtown core, carried out 43 patrols, from which 15 bottles of liquor were seized and destroyed.

A few incidents of note included an armed robbery that occurred on Jan. 15 at the Mac's Convenience which was robbed at knife point at 4:30 a.m at 5001 Forrest Drive.

"The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made to date," said Laporte.

Laporte also said was successfully able to bring forward charges for a rash of false alarms in a downtown apartment building, as it was a large concern for first responders.

There were a total of 832 total recorded incidents in January of this year.
