For his first time in Yellowknife, Paul Mendonca was feeling the love during Rib Fest. He may well be back for seconds.

"Coming up here and taking the chance, not knowing what to expect, the love and positive feedback makes me feel excellent," he said. "It makes me feel like we'll be back again next year."

Mendonca said he's the director of operations for Rib Fest, which is part of the Western Canada Rib Fest Tour. The event came to town Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 and hosted Rib Fest at the Multiplex. Lines of people stretched across their venue by the hundreds, and it seemed well-received, especially considering it was happening at the same time as Ramble and Ride.

"That's one of those things where we were unfamiliar with the area," said Mendonca, adding he didn't intend to detract from events. "We want to make sure we're planning for next year and work in coordination with those guys so we're not taking away from them. But also, if there's a way we can work together and make something up, there are definitely conversations to be had."

Spread across the city were signs promoting Rib Fest leading up to the actual event. The site featured three massive stages, each with multiple vendors, a beer garden and a truck stop for sweets.

Mendonca said he didn't get to do much sightseeing while he was in Yellowknife, but added that the people he met were kind.

"Because we're walking around with our logos on our shirt, they recognize that we're here for Rib Fest and they have questions for us and are just excited that we're here."

The Rib Fest tour continues it roadshow into the fall. Mendonca and the rest of his team are headed to Airdrie, Alta., next.
