The NWT Futsal League is NWT Soccer's newest project and it all begins this weekend.
The first day of league business will be at St. Joe's Gymnasium on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. with several age groups hitting the floor for an hour of training and scrimmages. The U8 category will be first up, followed by the U10, U12, U6, U4 and U15 groups. The training will continue every Sunday until Nov. 25, when the first sets of matches will happen.
There's still some room for team officials to sign up for the season. Their job is to help out with the technical director of each division whenever practices are on.
Last chance saloon
Canada's senior men's rugby union team has never failed to qualify for the Rugby World Cup but they face their toughest test SA国际影视传媒� and last chance SA国际影视传媒� to qualify later this month.
The national team will be playing in the 2019 Rugby World Cup repechage tournament in France, which begins on Nov. 11, and there will be a Yellowknife connection in the mix. Kyle Baillie, who was born in the city and lived in the NWT until the age of nine, will be one of 34 players looking for a spot on the team after he was named to the 'long list' of players on Oct. 26 by head coach Kingsley Jones.
The team will have three games in which to qualify, starting with Kenya, followed by a match against Germany and ending against Hong Kong with the winner of the tournament getting the 20 th and final spot in the World Cup.
Hoops minds meet
Basketball NWT will be getting its affairs in order this weekend as it gets set to host its annual general meeting tomorrow.
Everything gets underway at 9 a.m. but the location has yet to be determined as of press time.
Damien Healy, Basketball NWT's president, said anyone who wants to attend can e-mail him and they will be kept apprised of the situation.
The meeting will include board elections, a look at the financial health of the association and other matters pertaining to basketball in the territory.
