Three people have received presumptive positive Covid-19 test results, deputy chief public health officer Dr. Andy Delli-Pizzi said in a news release on Friday.
One test was received in Inuvik, with the other two received in Yellowknife.
Inuvik
The Inuvik test is unrelated to the two in Yellowknife, while the Yellowknife cases are related and involve one person who travelled and then transmitted the infection to a household member.
The individual from Inuvik started their travel in Alberta, traveled to Inuvik by road, and arrived on Oct. 10. The person immediately isolated on arrival at their final destination, in accordance with travel restrictions and self-isolation protocols.
That individual is currently isolating safely at-home and doing well.
An initial assessment shows there were no potential contacts, though an investigation continues. The risk of further transmission is considered to be very low since precautions were taken. Public health has determined there are no concerns for exposure along the route which was traveled at this time.
Yellowknife
These tests came late at night on Thursday. An investigation is underway and further details will be made available later on Friday.
The results are regarded as presumptive because not enough positive tests have been completed on the analyzers to be able to declare a case confirmed yet. Follow-up tests with the partnering public health laboratory in Edmonton are required for confirmation purposes.
The NWT has had five confirmed cases of Covid, all of which had recovered in April.
