Yellowknife Consumer Price Index rises again

2408rainfallweather41_sfw

Yellowknife's consumer price index jumped over two per cent, according to the NWT Bureau of Statistics.

Since last May, the biggest increases were in health and personal care, and transportation, respectively climbing by 3.3 per cent and 4.5 per cent.

The department attributed the latter's higher costs to shared growth between public and private transportation, with gas prices raising after a drop in January and February.

The 2.3 per cent increase in Yellowknife is roughly equivalent to the rest of Canada, with a 2.4 per cent CPI increase nationally, 2.3 per cent in Edmonton, 1.8 per cent for Whitehorse and 2.4 cent for Iqaluit.
