Yellowknife hikers lost on Ranney Hill located

Two hikers lost on Ranney Hill trail have been found safe, according to an news release on Monday.

The hikers, two women, were on their way back from their hike around Vee Lake Road, when they realized they had veered off the trail and could no longer locate the markers. As darkness began to set in they became disoriented.

Yellowknife received a call for service at approximately 8:16 p.m. on Friday Sept. 25. The were able to bring the hikers back to safety later that night with the help of NWT police dog Hoss.

The women were found about 900 metres into the trail and had no injuries.

Sgt. Yannick Hamel, operations manager for Yellowknife , reminds hikers to always tell a friend or family member where they are going and to always carry food, water, a first aid kit and a communication device in case of emergency.

"We are thankful we found the hikers safe and sound," he said.
