Yellowknife ask for public's help following second firearms theft in city

Murder charge laid in Cambridge Bay

Yellowknife are asking for the public's help as they continue to investigate the recent theft of firearms from a city residence - the second theft of guns in the capital in the span of a week.

Between 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 and and 2 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, multiple firearms were stolen from a safe in a detached garage on Haener Drive, according to an news release issued Wednesday.

Just days before on Thanksgiving weekend, guns, ammunition, jewelry and other items were swiped from a Rivett Crescent residence. Since then, some of the guns have been recovered, but others still remain unaccounted for.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect in that break-in, 31-year-old Beau Desire-Tesar, who faces theft and firearm charges.

With the latest break-in, Yellowknife Mounties are turning to residents who may have been in the area at the time of the theft.

: are looking for information from those who were on the trail system or roadways near Haener Street, between the hours of 6PM to 2AM on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018.," states a news release issued Friday morning.

"If you were in the area, whether you feel you witnessed any suspicious activity or not, are encouraging the public to please contact the Yellowknife .

Homeowners in the area are asked to check their property for items that may not belong to them. If any item were to be located, the would ask for it be reported and left in place and not handled until an officer can come and collect it," states the news release.
