Yellowknife have made what they're calling the biggest meth bust ever in the NWT.

Yellowknife are saying they've made the largest meth bust ever in the NWT.

According to a release from police on Thursday, it all began back on May 22 when authorities were tipped that several people were unlawfully inside a vacated apartment. Officers arrived and arrested someone who was trying to escape through a balcony.

The 's General Investigation Section later obtained a search warrant for the apartment and seized several items including two handguns, more than $12,000 in cash, prescription drugs, illicit cannabis products, and a large quantity of suspected cocaine, along with other drug paraphernalia.

The narcotics were sent off for analysis and the results came back on July 24 with a surprise. What investigators had first suspected to be cocaine was actually 1 kg worth of methamphetamine pressed into pill form.

"The believes this is the largest seizure of this substance in the Northwest Territories to date," stated Const. Josh Seaward, media relations officer with NWT .

Musab Ibrahim, 21, of Saskatoon has been charged with:

路         Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking;

路         Possession of Items Intended to Produce a Substance;

路         Possession of a Firearm with Ammunition without a License (2 counts);

路         Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000;

路         Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House and;

路         Possession of a Prohibited Device, contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code

Ibrahim made an appearance before a Justice of the Peace and was released with a promise to appear in court at a later date. Seaward stated the investigation is ongoing.
