Emma Willoughby, a grade 12 student at Sir John Franklin High School, just won a Loran Award, valued at $100,000.

Emma Willoughby from Sir John Franklin High School has just won a Loran Award valued at $100,000.

The Loran Scholars Foundation is a national charity and every year hands out several Loran Awards worth $100,000 over a four-year undergraduate program.

But the foundation doesnSA国际影视传媒檛 give out awards based solely on academic or athletic merit, rather it looks SA国际影视传媒渂eyond the transcriptSA国际影视传媒 to SA国际影视传媒渇ind the promise of character,SA国际影视传媒 according to the foundationSA国际影视传媒檚 website.

Out of over 5,000 applicants, grade 12 student Willoughby was named one of 88 finalists last month before being selected as one of 34 Loran Scholars after national selections took place in Toronto earlier this month.

Willoughby told Northern News Services last month that she plans to use her earnings to attend either Queens University, the University of Ottawa or McGill University.
