Thebacha/Fort Smith
Mayor Lynn Napier-Buckley has been re-elected the mayor of the Town of Fort Smith.
She faced two challengers in the Oct. 15 municipal elections.
Napier-Buckley collected 437 votes, compared to 255 votes for Brad Brake, a former mayor, and 61 votes for Don Matthews.
A new council was also elected on Oct. 15
It consists of Jessica Cox, who was the top vote-getter with the support of 583 residents; Ann Pischinger (557 votes); Bob McArthur and Chris Westwell, who tied with 521 votes; Kevin Smith (478 votes); Kevin Campbell (392 votes); Michael Couvrette (358 votes); and Louise Beaulieu (349 votes).
Six other people ran for council, but were unsuccessful in their bids.
Halloween events in Fort Resolution
Deninu Ku'e/Fort Resolution
Two Halloween events are planned by the Hamlet of Fort Resolution.
There will be family pumpkin carving at Lakeview Arena on Oct. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. Participants should bring their own carving kits
There will also be a Halloween costume contest on Oct. 31, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Antoine Beaulieu Memorial Hall.
Judges will determine the best, scariest and funniest costumes in five age categories.
Fort Smith museum planning fall feast
Thebacha/Fort Smith
An annual fall feast is planned for this coming weekend at Northern Life Museum & Cultural Centre in Fort Smith.
The licensed event for those aged 19 years and over will take place on Oct. 27, beginning at 7 p.m.
The feast will feature soups, breads, desserts and wine.
