The Hay River Soup Kitchen is receiving significant funding for improvements to its building.

The funding is coming from the Hay River Metis Government Council, which distributes money to various groups for the Community Wellness Initiative.

That is a Department of Health and Social Services program supported with federal funding. The funding for the Soup Kitchen will be for new interior lights, a new dishwasher, renovations to counters, and other work on the building. In addition, the Metis Council has also created a new sign for the Soup Kitchen.

It was displayed on Jan. 26 by, left to right, Chris Aitken, the president of the Soup Kitchen; Trevor Beck, president of the Hay River Metis Government Council; and Mattie McNeill, treasurer of the Soup Kitchen.
