The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) has announced the official list of candidates for vice-president, secretary treasurer and various community directors for the Dec. 9 election.
Runnning for vice-president are Levi Barnabas, Jaco Newkingak and David Qamaniq.
Adamee Itorcheak, Jason Kaernerk and Cornelius Kadloo Nutarak are vying for secretary treasurer.
The community director positions are up for grabs in several communities.
QIA beneficiaries in Arctic Bay will choose either Kataisee Attagutsiak, Moses Koonoo or Sheena Qaunaq.
It's a two-way race in Grise Fiord as Larry Audlaluk and Liza Ningiuk seek the office.
Pangnirtung has candidates Billy Etooangat, Peter Evvik and Johnny Mike.
Qikiqtarjuaq will see a race contested by Jaypootie Aliqatuqtuq, Jonah Audlakiak, Pauloosie Keyootak and Rosemary Metuq.
Joadamee Amagoalik, Jeffery Amarualik, Lisa Komangapik and Sarah Salluviniq will be on the ballot in Resolute Bay.
In Kinngait, Martha Jaw has been acclaimed as community director.
All positions carry a four-year term.
Eligible voters include any Inuk enrolled under The Nunavut Agreement who is at least 16 years or older as of Dec. 9, 2024 and has resided in the Qikiqtani region for more than one year.
Monica Ell-Kanayuk will be the chief returning officer for the election.
